[Pokémon TCG] Misty & Lorelei (Tag All Stars [SM12a] 191/173) [Release Date/Price/Where To Buy]
The real question is: how has there never been any other card featuring Lorelei?
In both the Pokémon video games and anime, it’s been mentioned that Indigo League Elite Four member Lorelei is Cerulean Gym Leader Misty’s greatest idol. Thus, putting the duo on the same Supporter card in seventh-generation set Tag All Stars [SM12a]—a Pokémon TCG set based around the TAG TEAM concept—was in hindsight an obvious move; it turned out to be one of the set’s biggest hits.
About Misty & Lorelei (Tag All Stars [SM12a] 191/173)
This card leans heavily into the nostalgia factor—not only with regard to the Pokémon video games, but even more so pertaining to the anime. Misty was the female protagonist of the Pokémon anime’s first two generations, and in Episode 99 on the anime, she was shown to be utterly star-struck after having met Lorelei (who was referred to in the anime as “Prima”). What made that episode even more memorable was the fact that it would later be banned from future airings, adding to the lore and mystique around it and subsequently this card.
The fact that it’s two female characters on the same card—and two of the Pokémon franchise’s most iconic going all the way back to Gen 1—undoubtedly has a lot to do with the card’s substantial value. Finally, this Super Rare (SR) card is to this day the only Pokémon TCG card with Lorelei on it—appearing almost a quarter of a century after her debut in the video games.
