Eterna Gym Leader Gardenia made her debut as a Supporter card in seventh-generation Pokémon TCG set Ultra Sun [SM5S]—a full three generations after her video game debut in Gen 4 main-series games Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. While she did appear in the background of Roserade GL and Turtwig GL, two cards from Gen 4 set Bonds to the End of Time [Pt2], the cards were centered on her Pokémon, not Gardenia herself.

About Gardenia (Ultra Sun [SM5S] 070/066)

Due to demographic reasons, it’s so often the case that a card featuring a female character gains major traction within the fanbase. The illustration plays up this factor to an extent, showing Gardenia winking and posing with her leg bent at an angle which while not necessarily outright suggestive, does put her figure into closer focus.

As was earlier mentioned, this Super Rare (SR) card marked Gardenia’s first appearance in the Pokémon TCG as her own card more than a decade after her Pokémon franchise debut; this significantly drove up demand for the card. To this day, it’s one of only two cards which primarily feature Gardenia and one of just five which include her at all; another such card wouldn’t return until Gardenia was shown in the artwork of the Character Rare (CHR) Roserade card from eighth-generation set Battle Region [S9a].

The English version of this card is card 149/156 in Ultra Prism.

A copy of a Gardenia (Ultra Sun [SM5S] 070/066) card goes for 33,000 JPY (~US$220).
