[ONE PIECE Card Game] Best Deck Archetypes As of 1 November 2024
Here's a look at the deck archetypes currently dominating the ONE PIECE Card Game tournament scene.
Now that Emperors in the New World [OP-09], the most recent ONE PIECE Card Game set, has been around for long enough, the current metagame has begun to solidify. A consensus on what are the best deck archetypes right now has begun to form.
As things stand right now, these are the decks which are currently on top of the ONE PIECE Card game meta, making major impacts in tournaments all over the planet.
Blue Doflamingo
This is the deck which has now firmly established itself as the most dominant force in the meta. The deck’s excellent Flagship Battle and Championship Series results speak for themselves; the current meta has undoubtedly shifted to favor this deck.
The deck’s Leader effect allows the player to bring in a Seven Warlords of the Sea card sooner than what would normally be expected, allowing the deck’s titular Leader card from Romance Dawn [OP-01] to apply early-game pressure on the opponent. The deck’s strategy is primarily built around developing multiple viable attacking threats, especially those which synergize well with the Leader card’s effect. The player can also use this to protect the Leader card by forcing the opponent to have to deal with one or more rested Character cards.
This deck is highly resource-efficient, allowing the player to rapidly develop key Character cards in the mid-game and late game for relatively low DON!! use, sparing the resources that the player may have in hand. This is largely due to the buffs that the deck received from the Blue Donquixote Doflamingo Starter Deck [ST-17].
Black Lucci
This deck has been in red-hot form recently, achieving impressive results at both in-person and online Regionals, Flagship Battle tournaments, and Championship Series tournaments around the world. It’s been a staple of the meta ever since the release of 500 Years in the Future [OP-07], the set from which its Leader card is taken, and shows no sign of slowing down any time soon.
The plan when using this deck is to ensure that the opponent can’t keep serious threats on the field by removing them early. The main way to do so is via the Rob Lucci Character card from Awakening of the New Era [OP-05]; if it ends up being trashed, either Gecko Moria from Wings of the Captain [OP-06] or Spandine from the Extra Booster Memorial Collection [EB-01] can bring it back. Additionally, the deck places much emphasis on cost reduction of opposing Characters in order to put them within removal range for the player.
In addition, that same Moria card mentioned allows the player to retrieve one or two Character cards which have been trashed. This allows it to work well alongside the deck’s Leader card because the Leader card’s effect forces the player to trash two cards from the top of the player’s deck; as such, the player can retrieve an important Character card which might have been trashed via the Leader effect.
Black/Yellow Luffy
The Black/Yellow Luffy deck has been a dominant force in recent in-person and online Regional tournaments, taking the wins at the recent Carta Magica and OPE Online Regional tournaments. While much of this deck’s recent success has come in the West, it’s starting to once again catch on in Japan and Asia-Pacific after having previously fallen off there.
Most of this deck’s strategy is centered around Life manipulation because the effect of the Leader card from The Three Brothers’ Bond [ST-13] activates once the player has no Life cards remaining. Additionally, the Monkey D. Luffy Character card from The Three Brothers’ Bond [ST-13] with the Sabo card from Kingdoms of Intrigue [OP-04] can be brought out by other corresponding Character cards from The Three Brothers’ Bond [ST-13]. By doing so, the deck’s Leader gains a significant Power boost for greater survivability while also making the player’s board presence more threatening.
In the late game, the Gecko Moria from Wings of the Captain [OP-06] card can be brought out to strengthen the player’s board control without over-expending resources. It can be used to simultaneously develop multiple Characters in order to facilitate greater aggression and potentially put the opponent away for good. At the same time, it gives the Leader card up to 4000 extra Power, making it much more difficult for the opponent to launch a viable attack.
