Here’s What Went Down at Cards Collectibles Asia—From SNKRDUNK and More
An event that's sure to be one of the highlights of the regional TCG and sports card calendar going forward.
TCG, sports cards, and collectible enthusiasts across Singapore and throughout Southeast Asia were in for a treat over the span of 11-13 October 2024—the first-ever edition of Cards Collectibles Asia (CCA) took place at Marina Square. Thousands of visitors poured in over the three days to experience what will surely be one of the highlights of the regional TCG and sports card calendar going forward.
Everything That Happened at SNKRDUNK’s CCA Booth
Anyone who’s been paying attention to our CCA lead-up articles will know that we at SNKRDUNK didn’t just write about CCA—we played an active role in it too. Our booth ended up being quite the draw thanks to the array of goodies we had on offer.
First off, we’ll discuss our OriPas. Remarkably, all 200 of our 3-card Pokémon TCG OriPas priced at S$10 apiece sold out within about half a day. It was obvious that our OriPas were quite the highlight—in large part thanks to the fact that we guaranteed that every OriPa would have at least one card of the Art Rare (AR) rarity or higher.
We even noticed that some of our customers took to social media to brag about the best pulls they landed from our OriPas. If any of you are reading this right now: we see you and we’re glad you liked it.
Another massive draw at the SNKRDUNK booth had to do with the POP MART products we sold. Why? Well, it’s because we sold products depicting none other than Labubu. Yes, THAT Labubu. As many might have guessed, those sold out in a hurry.
Topping that were our Murakami.Flowers TCG sales over the following two days. On 12 October, the Japanese 108 Flowers Revised box sold at a breakneck pace; the day’s happenings had barely even begun when we sold our last box. The next day, our Takashi Murakami Mononoke Kyoto Collectible Trading Card boxes—both in English and Japanese—saw every copy sell out within two hours.
Our PSA 10 Pokémon TCG and ONE PIECE Card Game cards proved to be quite the draw as well. Some of the standout cards we sold included the Manga Rare Tony Tony Chopper card from the Extra Booster Memorial Collection [EB-01], the Lusamine card from Ultradimensional Beasts [SM4a], the Monkey D. Luffy card from Straw Hat Pirates [ST-01] which was signed by One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda, and most stunningly of all, the Manga Rare Monkey D. Luffy card from Awakening of the New Era [OP-05]. That remarkable card went for S$4,245!
Of course, we weren’t the only ones to make a splash at CCA. Others behind the booths at the event included the likes of event co-organizers 1Collectibles, TCGKL, CGC Grading, Snorlax House, The Private Collective, Oxley Grading, Tanavit23, and Inferno Gaming, among others. Building on the organizers’ idea to make this a truly regional event, several exhibitors came from other Southeast Asian countries to display their own TCG highlights.
Other CCA 2024 Highlights
SNKRDUNK wasn’t the only exhibitor to have a CCA-related promotion on. Other examples included Snorlax House’s slab OriPas, The Private Collective’s Inside Out challenge, and Inferno Gaming’s Pokémon TCG Energy card grid—all of which a buyer could access by first purchasing a minimum value of TCG products from the corresponding booth.
While the vast majority of the cards on display across the booths were, as expected, Pokémon TCG, ONE PIECE Card Game, or sports cards, those were by no means the only items sold. Cards belonging to an array of franchises were displayed prominently for all to see—even some from smaller names which only die-hard TCG fans deep into the scene would’ve been likely to know about beforehand. Not only that—the cards at CCA weren’t restricted to Japanese and English ones; cards in other languages did make several appearances too.
Event sponsor Julie’s got in on the act as well. A spend of S$50 in a single receipt at any other booth would entitle the buyer to a prize at the Julie’s booth; that prize would be selected by way of a random draw.
Julie’s also organized the Fast Game contest in collaboration with the Singapore Book of Records. In Fast Game, the objective is to open a Pokémon TCG booster pack in as short a time as possible. Nine entrants advanced to the final on 13 October following heats across each of the three days.
A number of TCG livestreamers were also present at CCA; for them, CCA was an ideal opportunity to build their personal brands and further connect with their respective audiences. Other goings-on included a learn-to-play session of Flesh and Blood as well as live CGC card gradings between 2PM and 4PM on 12 October.
Finally, we’ve saved the best for last—the Crown Jewels exhibit serving as the event’s centerpiece. This exhibit spotlighted some of the most legendary TCG and sports cards of all time—some of which if sold today, would go for more than S$300,000 per copy.
Among the cards which were part of the Crown Jewels exhibit included the Mario and Luigi Pikachu cards from the XY-P Promotional cards, the Charles Leclerc 1 of 1 card from the Topps Chrome set, and the 2022 Panini World Cup Lionel Messi 1 of 1 black sticker card, just to name a few.
