Trae Young has achieved a feat that few basketball players can claim: the creation of a signature sneaker line. His partnership with adidas, forged in 2018, has yielded three distinct signature models.

While anticipation for the Trae Young 4 was high, rumors have surfaced suggesting that this may be the final chapter in their partnership. Sources have confirmed with Sole Retriever that the upcoming model will likely be the last signature sneaker in the Trae Young line.

About the adidas Trae Young 4

adidas Trae Young 4

The adidas Trae Young 4 is expected to feature a design language similar to its predecessor.

A knit base combined with neoprene creates a dynamic upper reinforced by TPU elements. The tongue is adorned with the namesake’s logo, and the Three Stripes branding is prominently displayed on the lateral midfoot.

The heel counter, extending from the midsole, provides added support, while the sole unit incorporates a topographical-inspired design with circular cutouts. While the cushioning technology remains undisclosed, the outsole boasts a redesigned configuration.

Release Details

Twelve colorways of the adidas Trae Young 4 are scheduled for release: six in Holiday 2024, and the remaining six will arrive in Spring 2025. Each pair will be available in men’s sizing and priced at US$130.

The exact terms of Young’s contract with adidas remain unknown, but it is believed that the initial four-year agreement was restructured in 2020 with a multi-year extension. The Trae Young 1, unveiled in Fall 2021, marked the beginning of this signature series, followed by the Trae Young 2 in 2022 and the Trae Young 3 last September.

The potential end of the Trae Young signature line does not necessarily mean that Young will cease collaborating with adidas entirely. The Three Stripes could adopt a similar strategy to Jordan Brand’s approach with Russell Westbrook, offering takedown models rather than mainline signature sneakers. Young’s budget model, the Trae Unlimited, has already received a second iteration.
