Every year, two prize cards are handed out to the top four finishers of the Yu-Gi-Oh World Championship in not only the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG tournament, but the Master Duel and Speed Duel tournaments as well. For the 2024 edition, the card awarded to the champions of these tournaments was Dragon of Illumination, Sanctuary’s Shield.

About Dragon of Illumination, Sanctuary’s Shield (Yu-Gi-Oh World Championship 2024 Prize Cards 2024-EN001)

If any copies of Dragon of Illumination, Sanctuary’s Shield ever end up making it to the open market, it’ll be almost certain that it will sell for a remarkable price. Since it was only awarded to Yu-Gi-Oh World Championship 2024 tournament champions, just five copies exist and will ever do so. As of right now, they are in the possession of Yu-Gi-Oh TCG world champion Ruben Penaranda, Yu-Gi-Oh Speed Duel world champion Sebastian Villarroel, and the members of Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel world champions Team 7: Ryan Yu, Jesse Kotton, and Raymond Dai.

There’s also continuity between this card and last year’s card awarded to tournament champs: Masterful Magician, Servant of the Sanctuary. The characters depicted on the two cards are rivals, as implied by the similarities of their names. The card also contains a reference to the city of Seattle, where the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG 2024 World Championship was held. The tower in the illustration’s background has been designed to resemble the Seattle Space Needle.

As a final touch, this Extra Secret Rare card also contains a reference to one of the most iconic Yu-Gi-Oh TCG cards ever: Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Dragon of Illumination, Sanctuary’s Shield is an Effect Match winner counterpart of Blue-Eyes White Dragon and on top of that, Dragon of Illumination, Sanctuary’s Shield has the same ATK and DEF, Attribute, and Level as Blue-Eyes White Dragon.

While no copies of Dragon of Illumination, Sanctuary’s Shield (Yu-Gi-Oh World Championship 2024 Prize Cards 2024-EN001) are yet on the open market, any such card will surely go for massive money if ever sold.
