Less than a week before the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG World Championships, Konami has released the latest list of card restrictions for tournament play outside Japan and other Asia-Pacific countries. This list will not be in effect for Worlds which will be held in Seattle on 7 and 8 September 2024; Worlds will make use of a unique list combining elements of this banlist as well as the one currently in effect in Japan and Asia-Pacific. All restrictions listed came into effect on 2 September.

Four cards have receive complete bans; as such, none of a player’s registered tournament decks are allowed to contain any copies of these cards. The four newly-banned cards are Fiendsmith’s Lacrima; Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess; Hot Red Dragon Archfiend King Calamity; and Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal.

Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal had previously been in the restricted category for eight years before finally being entirely prohibited. The other three cards had been completely unrestricted prior to this latest update. Notably, Fiendsmith’s Lacrima has now broken the all-time record for shortest time between a card’s release and total ban; the duration between the card’s international release and its ban from tournament play was just 46 days.

Eleven cards have been moved to the restricted category, meaning that among all of a player’s registered tournament decks, only one can contain such cards. These 11 cards are Eva, Snake-Eye Ash, Snake-Eye Poplar, Number 40: Gimmick Puppet of Strings, Number C40: Gimmick Puppet of Dark Strings, Branded Fusion, Opening of the Spirit Gates, Pot of Prosperity, Sangen Summoning, That Grass Looks Greener, and Skill Drain.

Two of these cards had previously been on Konami’s blacklist but may now be used in limited quantities: Eva and That Grass Looks Greener. Every other card listed had previously been entirely unrestricted.

Seven cards are now semi-restricted; therefore, each official tournament deck may contain a maximum of two copies of each such card. Four of these cards are the four main Dragon Ruler cards: Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos; Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders; Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls; and Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms. The remaining three are Lunalight Tiger, Thunder Dragon Colossus, and Ib the World Chalice Justiciar. All seven cards had previously been in the restricted category.

Finally, seven cards are now fully unrestricted. These cards are Armageddon Knight, Red Rose Dragon, Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin, Performage Plushfire, Ancient Fairy Dragon, Time Seal, and Denglong, First of the Yang Zing.

All but two of these cards had been in the restricted category. The exceptions are Armageddon Knight which had been semi-restricted prior to this most recent update as well as Performage Plushfire which had been completely banned. Performage Plushfire had been banned for more than 8 1/2 years before its unban.
