[ONE PIECE Card Game] Best Deck Archetypes As of 11 July 2024
With Two Legends [OP-08] out for long enough to influence the metagame and the current card banlist now being in effect worldwide, the top of the meta has once again seen some changes.
More than a month after the release of Two Legends [OP-08] and following the current ONE PIECE Card Game card banlist becoming global, the ONE PIECE Card Game metagame has now begun to stabilize. Clear patterns have emerged within the meta and certain decks have solidified their spots at the top of the ladder.
These are the deck archetypes which are, as of right now, the most dominant forces in the game.
Red/Purple Law
There’s absolutely no question that the Red/Purple Law deck is the deck to beat right now. Some notable recent results include a LATAM TCG Online Regional victory where another such deck placed third as well as top-four finishes at the TAK Games Online Treasure Cup (two in the top 4), Mülheim an der Ruhr Regional, Mesquite Regional, NoHEROES Online Regional, and Utrecht Regional. It’s been even more dominant in Japan and Asia-Pacific where it has torn through a string of Flagship Battle, Standard Battle, and Championship Series tournaments.
The introduction of the Black Maria card in Two Legends [OP-08] has somehow taken this deck to another level—one well beyond where any other deck right now is. That card makes it much less likely for this deck to suffer a DON!! deficit; that had been its only real flaw prior to the launch of Two Legends [OP-08].
This extremely efficient deck floods the field with multiple high-power Characters to inflict serious damage in a hurry. It’s not only difficult for most other decks to keep up with this deck’s rapid tempo; this deck also has favorable matchups against almost every other meta-relevant deck with just the Black Moria deck being the exception.
Yellow Enel
After a recent dip, the Yellow Enel deck is on the come-up again following victories at the TAK Games Online Regional as well as several Flagship Battle tournaments. While no new cards from Two Legends [OP-08] have been added to this deck, there have been certain cards which have restored this deck’s elite meta viability thanks to current metagame changes.
A slow-paced deck which is geared towards maximizing late-game impact, recent builds of this deck have increasingly prioritized the Charlotte Compote card from the Extra Booster Memorial Collection [EB-01] over the Charlotte Linlin card from Big Mom Pirates [ST-07]. This is because by emphasizing the Compote card, this deck gains the advantage in its matchup against the otherwise-threatening Black/Yellow Luffy deck.
In the early going, cards such as Charlotte Katakuri from Pillars of Strength [OP-03], Portgas D. Ace from 500 Years in the Future [OP-07], and Yamato from Kingdoms of Intrigue [OP-04] set things up by allowing the player to get high-cost Character cards ready. The deck also makes much use of removal cards including that same Yamato card as well as Gedatsu from Awakening of the New Era [OP-05]; these cards prevent the opponent from accumulating ample resources and potentially derailing the player’s strategy.
Black Lucci
Already a staple of the Eastern meta, the Black Lucci deck has slowly but surely begun to catch on in the West as well. Results at the TAK Games Online Regional, where it had two top-10 finishes, as well as the Utrecht Regional where it took three of the top eight and seven of the top 15 spots have proven that now, no matter where in the world one plays, this deck can no longer be overlooked.
In the current meta, one of this deck’s most important cards is the Rob Lucci Character card from Awakening of the New Era [OP-05] due to its ability to prevent opponents from keeping threatening cards on the field. For additional staying power, this deck utilizes Spandine from the Extra Booster Memorial Collection [EB-01] as well as Gecko Moria from Wings of the Captain [OP-06]; both cards can return that Lucci card into play if it’s somehow trashed.
Two Legends [OP-08] brought a pair of major additions to this deck’s war chest: Jack and Who’s-Who. They synergize well with the deck’s titular Leader card from 500 Years in the Future [OP-07] which allows the player to build a resource advantage by reducing the cost of opposing Characters.
