Many ONE PIECE Card Game cards have been released as freebies that come with Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazines V Jump and Saikyō Jump. This is due to the fact that these magazines have long had close ties to the One Piece manga; today, non-canonical spin-off manga series One Piece School, written by Kōji Sōhei, is serialized in Saikyō Jump. The next such card will be a promotional Marco card to come packaged with Saikyō Jump’s August issue to be released on 4 July 2024.

The card’s illustration depicts the former member of the Whitebeard Pirates in his half-phoenix form. This is the result of the powers of his Devil Fruit, the Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix. While not outright stated, the illustration is likely a close-up from one of his combat scenes from the Marineford Arc—the arc generally lauded as not only the One Piece manga’s best, but the best in the history of manga in general.

The card’s effects also allude to Marco’s in-universe powers. When KO’d, this card can be placed into the player’s hand. This is a reference to Marco’s Blue Flames of Resurrection, his signature power that allows him to immediately heal from all injuries sustained regardless of severity—alluding to how the phoenix rises from its own ashes.

This card’s English release date hasn’t yet been confirmed; neither has a retail price as copies of this card are yet to hit the open market. Stay tuned for further details.
