Though it’s still early in the Championship 2024 season of the ONE PIECE Card Game, being in Wave 1 in Japan and Asia-Pacific and in the earliest phase of Wave 2 elsewhere, there have nonetheless already been notable trends developing in the metagame. These trends will undoubtedly inform the development and evolution of the meta going forward and will have significant impacts on current and future tournaments.

At the moment, the deck which is currently the best in the meta is the Black Moria deck. Having recently ended the Red/Purple Law deck’s reign at the top of the ladder, the Black Moria deck has returned to its spot as the deck to beat. Over the past month, over 20% of all recorded tournament decks have been Black Moria decks—many of which either won or placed well in those tournaments.

The Black Moria deck’s success has also caused the Black/Yellow Luffy deck to thrive because that deck serves as a hard counter to the Black Moria deck in multiple ways. At the recent NoHEROES Online Regional, Swedish player Fabian Erkelius took the title with a Black/Yellow Luffy deck and did, in fact, beat multiple players using Black Moria decks on his run to the championship.

While the Blue/Black Sakazuki deck has been banned in Japan and Asia-Pacific since 1 April 2024, it will remain tournament-legal elsewhere until 21 June. Although many players who still can do so have chosen to continue using this deck for the remainder of its legality, others have opted to pursue using other decks in preparation for the deck’s impending blacklisting. This has led to an overall decline in its frequency of play in tournaments.

The Yellow Enel deck, while having gone slightly under the radar in recent times, has nonetheless been on a strong run of its own. While not an outright counter to the Black Moria deck, it still does present a challenging matchup. The Yellow Enel deck also has clear advantages in matchups against the Blue/Black Sakazuki deck; however, once the latter is banned, that could end up impacting the Yellow Enel deck’s standing in the meta.

Finally, two decks have begun to move closer to the top of the meta: the Green Uta and the Blue/Purple Reiju decks. While both were first used as anti-meta decks designed to counter the most dominant current decks, they’ve both since started to emerge as genuine threats in their own right.
