Pokémon TCG Pecharunt ex

The main villain of the Teal Mask, the first DLC of the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet video games, Mythical Pokémon Pecharunt used its Toxic Chains to fulfill the wishes of the so-called “Loyal Three”—Munkidori, Okidogi, and Fezandipiti—while also forcing them to do its bidding. Since Night Wanderer [SV6a] is largely centered on the events of The Teal Mask, Pecharunt ex is thus one of the set’s standout cards.

Right off the bat, the lore regarding Pecharunt makes itself obvious on this Special Art Rare (SAR) card. Pecharunt ex’s Toxic Chains can be seen all around it. There are even Toxic Chains emerging from both halves of its open shell, resembling arms and thus making it even more obvious that Pecharunt ex is controlling those Toxic Chains. The dark background is also relevant; in addition to providing the imagery with a foreboding, ominous vibe, it also references how the truth about Pecharunt, Ogerpon, and the Loyal Three has been obscured and warped.

For those who are well-versed in Japanese folklore, there’s a bonus point to pick up on. Considering its peach-like shape and motif, the three Pokémon under it, and the fact that the Loyal Three fought Ogerpon, Pecharunt is clearly implied to be the Pokémon universe’s evil counterpart of Momotarō. This adds a layer which could appeal to some.

While this card’s place in the metagame is yet to be determined, one gameplay-related factor that many will find appealing about Pecharunt ex is its synergy with Okidogi ex. Its Ability allows the player to place any Dark-type Pokémon, such as Okidogi ex, in the Active spot; however, that Pokémon will now be poisoned. With Okidogi ex, though, this is a good thing because its Crazy Chain attack deals double damage when it’s poisoned.

This card isn’t yet out in English.

A copy of a Pecharunt ex (Night Wanderer [SV6a] 090/064) card of SAR rarity has a price tag of 3,800 JPY (~US$24).
