[Yu-Gi-Oh TCG] Fiendsmith Requiem Bares Its Teeth (Infinite Forbidden INFO-JP046)
Was this card perhaps inspired by Dragon Quest?
When the card list for the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG’s newest Core Booster Infinite Forbidden was released, it would’ve been perfectly understandable not to give the Fiendsmith Requiem card a second thought. However, coupled with its rarity of Quarter Century Secret Rare, there’s arguably an additional reason why this card has been gaining traction as of late.
Fiendsmith Requiem is a tombstone which has been possessed by a hostile demon. This calls to mind the iconic Cannibox from the Dragon Quest video games. In those games, Canniboxes are demons disguised as treasure chests. When approached, a Cannibox will bare its razor-sharp teeth and long tongue before attacking.
There are clear similarities between Fiendsmith Requiem and the Cannibox—in particular their demonic affinities and their rows of sharp teeth. As such, Yu-Gi-Oh TCG collectors and players who are also into Dragon Quest will almost certainly notice and be attracted to this card. In other words, in an unusual twist, it’s actually another fictional universe’s lore that makes this card the draw that it is.
This card hasn’t yet been released in English.
The price of a Fiendsmith Requiem (Infinite Forbidden INFO-JP046) card is 2,200 JPY (~US$14).
