Monglian–Chinese designer Dingyun Zhang, a rising star in footwear design, has left his mark on some of YEEZY’s most groundbreaking creations. His work on iconic silhouettes like the Foam RNNR and NSLTD BT honed his innovative design approach.
Now, after successful collaborations with Marni and Moncler, known for their captivating and otherworldly aesthetics, Zhang takes on a new challenge: reimagining the timeless adidas Originals Samba.
The titular Dingyun Zhang x adidas Samba features a luxurious Core Black upper, crafted from a blend of premium suede and patent leather. The design subtly reinterprets the Samba’s architecture, where a suede panel extends across the T-shaped toe overlay, complemented by suede at the vamp and eyestays. The base layer utilizes patent leather, highlighting the structured stitching and iconic Three Stripes.
The collaboration’s unique touch is evident in the co-branded tongue tag and the subtly puffed collar, a nod to the work of Zhang’s eponymous label. This signature detail adds a touch of personality without detracting from the shoe’s clean lines. The blacked-out theme extends to the rubber midsole and outsole, creating a cohesive and polished look.
The Dingyun Zhang x adidas Originals Samba drops on 10 May via adidas and select retailers. Stay tuned for pricing details as the release date approaches!
