tobyato and Clarks Celebrate Wallabee Day With 30 Custom “Dragon Dance” Pairs
Each shoe is a single laser-engraved frame of a swirling dragon animation. When all 30 unique pairs are brought together, they form a complete looping animation—a first-of-its-kind footwear “flipbook”.
The Clarks Wallabee has become, in recent decades, the quintessence of the British shoemaker. Street culture’s alternative footwear of choice, the Wallabees were introduced to the pop culture zeitgeist by musicians like Blur and Oasis; by hip-hop’s luminaries like the Wu-Tang Clan and MF Doom; and most recently, by Breaking Bad‘s Walter White.
Global brands and artists alike, have since become collaborators. The list has already subsumed Japan’s GOD SELECTION XXX, VANDY THE PINK, and Stüssy—just to name a few recent ones. And joining that elite roster is Singapore’s very own tobyato.
26 April was recently declared as Wallabee Day to celebrate the storied shoe. So, for the event’s inauguration, Clarks Originals has partnered with the Singaporean visual artist and muralist to create 30 custom pairs. The collaboration pays homage to both the rich pedigree of the Wallabee and traditional Chinese dragon dance.

When all 30 unique pairs are brought together, they form a complete looping animation—a first-of-its-kind footwear “flipbook”. The final flourish comes in the form of the custom artist acrylic and wooden charms, along with rope laces, reinforcing the concept of heritage and artistry.
The tobyato x Clarks Wallabee “Dragon Dance” is scheduled to drop on 26 April, 6PM (SGT) at Chamber, Wisma Atria and Clarks ION Orchard on 27 April, 2PM (SGT).
