[Pokémon TCG] Umbreon VMAX (Eevee Heroes [S6a] 095/069) [Release Date/Price/Where To Buy]
This card depicting the Dynamaxed form of the Moonlight Pokémon is one of the most expensive of recent years.
[Update 13 Nov 2024] This card’s English version from Evolving Skies has been experiencing an enormous price spike, leading to its value recently having reached an all-time high of 239,000 JPY (~US$1,545). Meanwhile, its Japanese counterpart’s price has remained fairly stable, most recently having been logged at 263,500 JPY (~US$1,703).
The increase in value for this iconic card is likely to drive up both the value and demand of not only the English Pokémon TCG products related to this card, but also perhaps the Japanese ones as well. Prices of booster packs, booster boxes, and Elite Trainer Boxes from Evolving Skies and Eevee Heroes [S6a] are expected to continue to climb for as long as Moonbreon’s does.
The Eevee Heroes [S6a] expansion set, released during the Pokémon TCG’s eighth generation, was intended to spotlight an array of cards featuring Eevee and its evolutions—Pokémon that have been fan favorites ever since their respective introductions. Of all the cards in this subset, one ended up standing alone as by far the most valuable and biggest pull—this Umbreon VMAX card nicknamed “Moonbreon” by the Pokémon TCG community.
Depicting Umbreon in its Dynamax form, the Full Art illustration on this Hyper Rare (HR) card shows the giant-sized Moonlight Pokémon with its tail wrapped around a building’s spire as it looks out towards the horizon with a full moon in view.
Umbreon VMAX is positioned as though it’s reaching out towards the night sky, and being in its Dynamax form, this effect is amplified because it almost looks like it could put its massive paws on a cloud. The magenta glow around Umbreon VMAX represents the Dynamax energy it’s emitting.
There are many factors which combine to make this card one of the most sought-after cards not only of its time, but of at least the past decade. Its remarkable rarity of HR, striking Full Art illustration, portrayal of a highly popular Pokémon, gameplay viability, and representation of one of the eighth generation of Pokémon’s definitive features via the Dynamax mechanic combine to make Moonbreon a card for the ages.
This card’s English version is card 215/203 from the Evolving Skies set.
An Umbreon VMAX (Eevee Heroes [S6a] 095/069) card of HR rarity is among the priciest on the market right now—one copy sells for an incredible ¥259,999 (~US$1,733)!
