[Update 15 Sep 2023] Vanessa Bryant today took to her Instagram to reveal the entire “Black Mamba” collection and the apparel that will accompany the Kobe 4 Protro, with the apt caption: “Job’s Not Finished.”
Therein, is Kobe’s “8” Lakers jersey in an apropos black with Laker-gold lining on the sleeves and imprints. But more excitingly, is the black varsity jacket regaled with a plethora of Kobe-inspired motifs, embroidered all over its body. Only the images will do it justice. See it up-close in the gallery above. Stay tuned for more release details re the apparel.
With the rejuvenation of the Kobe line, more retros—or rather, Protros—are making a comeback. One of which is the fan favorite Kobe 4. A slew of colorways should emerge over the next year but at the vanguard is the eponymous “Black Mamba”. A colorway that embodies the Kobe Bryant’s unparalleled austerity towards basketball.
Black engulfs the entirety of the shoe, including the faux snakeskin embellishments on the collar, toe overlay, and Swoosh insignia; with just the slightest of contrast introduced through the light suede fabric of the base layer. His sheath logo, textured to produce a slight gleam.
Other personal touches include his “24” jersey number debossed on the heel; and against the all-Black backdrop, Kobe’s autograph in University Gold dazzles on the TPU below it. All of which sit atop a uniform rubber sole unit that also houses the Zoom Air cushioning.
Right now, they’re scheduled for release on 26 December with an RRP of US$180. Keep a lookout for them on Nike SNKRS!
