Nike Celebrates Día de Muertos 2023 With the Air Max 1 “Familia”
With motifs inspired by aspects of the festivities.
Shoes scheduled for a holiday release have been surfacing since the early months of 2023. As the actual holiday season approaches, that means more celebratory pairs. A custom Nike has perpetuated and something that’ve kept fans anticipating.
As they’ve done in previous years, the Swoosh delivers another special edition sneaker for Día de Muertos. This year: the Air Max 1 “Familia”. Per practice, the design features a vibrant palette, along with various materials and construction.
The presentation and packaging is aptly inspired by aspects of the festivities. The Swooshes arrive in a vivid pink outfit with textures reminiscent of pan dulce.
The vivid green lining along the heel overlays, the pink suede mudguards, bold red accents, and yellow stripes that surround the quarter panels; all work in tandem to depict the candles, flowers, food, clothing, and other decorations placed on ofrendas to honor loved ones who have passed away.
As for its branding elements, the right tongue and insoles have the “Familia” logo imprinted on them. Making the theme more vivid too are the specially designed shoebox and wrapper the shoes will be housed in.
There isn’t a firm release date yet but it’s likely the pair will be released sometime in October or early November, presumably before the festivities on 2 November. Stay tuned, we’ll give an update as soon as words gets to us.
In the meantime, check out the Nike LeBron 21 “Gold”.
