The Nike Air Jordan 17 OG “White/Varsity Red” is Returning in 2024
With the special briefcase packaging, hopefully.
The Nike Air Jordan 17 might not have caught the attention of most sneakerheads over the past decade, but longtime fans of His Airness know exactly how great the shoes are. Having already been announced to return in 2024, it now seems like another OG colorway, the Nike Air Jordan 17 OG “White/Varsity Red” will follow suit.
Also nicknamed the “Cherry” by fans back then, this was the shoe Michael Jordan wore in the NBA 2001-2002 season after returning from his second retirement. To commemorate MJ’s mid-air wizardry and improvisation ability (and also the fact that he was playing for the Washington Wizards), Jordan Brand created the Air Jordan 17 based off the improvisational nature of jazz music. This is further incorporated by the inclusion of music notes on the detachable midfoot cover.
This basketball shoe was at the peak of footwear technology at the time. The AJ17 boasted performance enhancements, while also featured new innovations such as the Blow-Minded Air, which was a plate that spanned the entire length.
While release details are scanty at the moment, sneaker insider @zsneakerheadz also teased the possibility of the OG AJ17’s unique briefcase-like special packaging. That might still be up in the air, but it seems like a definite that this Nike Air Jordan 17 OG “White/Varsity Red” will return in 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
