[Update 6 Sep 2023] Now dubbed the Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 650 “Stuntman”, the pair will hit shelves on 9 September. But there’s a caveat: it will be limited to 500 pairs, each one hand-numbered. The pair will evade most of us but if it’s any consolation, there’s something to enjoy about the campaign images and the concept behind the shoe.

JFG drew inspiration from a pre-Nike demigod Michael Jordan’s 1984 photoshoot with LIFE Magazine where he wore a pair of New Balances. Via an Instagram post the head honcho mused, “A few years ago, while going through old magazines for reference material, I stumbled upon a photograph of someone ‘Special’ wearing a pair of NB’s in a photoshoot. And I simply thought to myself, ‘What if the story was different’?”

Check the images out at the gallery above and keep those fingers crossed that someone will list them up on the SNKRDUNK App!

Chicago has many great exports and one of them is Joe Freshgoods. He’s been raising the flag for the Windy City—high enough to get the attention of the shoemaker from Boston. Thus, began the partnership with New Balance a few years ago with the 992.

Since then, the duo have collaborated on many other models, even using their shared platform to debut the 9060. Next subsumed in their collaborative portfolio is the hardwood classic: 650.

Seen within the image carousel of his Mitchell & Ness Crosstown Classic collaboration, the titular 650 sports a suede and leather construction. Joe Freshgoods’ branding is embedded on the tongue, as well as replacing the usual 650 imprint on the lateral eyestay. As above, so below where a palette of Cream and Grey uniformly dress the shoe’s upper and sole unit.

There’s no release date yet but more details should emerge within the coming weeks, or months at most.

In the meantime, if you’re interested to see more JFG collaborations, there’s a plethora on the SNKRDUNK App!
