The PUMA Suede “Collector’s Edition” Takes Cues From Hip-Hop and Varsity Jackets
Adorned with metal studs and patent leather.
The PUMA Suede is a cultural icon having been at the epicentre of hip-hop’s emergence. Such a narrative plays a huge part in its repute, and such repute imbues the pair with collector’s value. And the titular PUMA Suede—aptly dubbed “Collector’s Edition”—is for the collectors, its most ardent fans.
The design concept is inspired by hip-hop and the varsity jackets that dressed the culture’s icons. It features a Black suede construction with leather serving as the overlays. A gleaming patent leather makes the hallmark formstripes on the profiles, while White crocodile leather addresses the eyestays.
Other notable embellishments include the golden studs that surround the formstripe and heel counter; the reds that highlights the PUMA branding on the heel, the “48” at the rear of the medial, the insoles, and aglets. All the aforementioned sit atop a Warm White sole unit.
The pair is scheduled for release on 3 August on PUMA Japan’s website for 13,200 JPY (~US$92). It hasn’t been disclosed whether the pair will get a global release.
