Dorophy Tang x adidas Originals Gazelle “Taiji” [Release Date/Price/Where to Buy]
An artist from Hong Kong, she lays over the classic silhoeutte oriental motifs inspired by Taiji, or Tai Chi.
Dorophy Tang is an artist born and raised in Hong Kong. She specializes in traditional Chinese art but with uniquely contemporary methodologies and ideas. She’s been commissioned by conglomerates like Nikon, Epson, and Kappa—amongst others. In addition to her extensive exhibitions in Beijing and Shanghai which garnered high acclaim.
Her first foray into fashion was through an exclusive line with Giordano. Her latest comes with adidas over their iconic Gazelle.
Many collaborations have become lazy and thoughtless money cash grabs, but Dorophy Tang’s take on the Three Stripes classic is anything but. It’s more than just a change in colorway or material. She actually lays her signature strongly over the pair.
About the Dorophy Tang x adidas Originals Gazelle “Taiji”
Sitting atop a gum rubber sole unit, the upper arrives outfitted in an off-white base with hits of black, particularly on the three stripes on the profiles and the heel tab. Where the shoe shines most is in its subtle detailing.
Presumably a tearaway, the canvas base is engulfed in a monogram that features the Trefoil emblem and an East Asian graphic symbol. The heel tab also displays a specially designed, collab-specific logo, likewise on the tongue tag as well. The footbed isn’t spared the artist’s touch with an imprint speaking more of the pair’s uniqueness.
