ASICS Subsumes the GEL-LYTE V Into the “Ancient Coin” Pack

ASICS has reimagined the GEL-LYTE V earlier this year in a variety of prints inspired by Japanese flowers, including wisteria, cherry blossom, hydrangea, nemophila, and mustard. Going back to the East for inspiration, they introduce the pair-in-question in contrasting shades of “Seafoam” and “Bengal Orange” for the new “Ancient Coin” pack.
Each pair lies at the opposite extremes of the color wheel, yet tied together by an old Japanese currency lace lock, the main motif materialized.
The first sees Bengal Orange hues engulf the perforated leather base layer, in addition to the suede overlays and round laces on the forefoot. The tongue construction and mid-foot Tiger Stripes are filled with a contrasting pale tan, while the obscured quarter and textured heel counter are treated with a darkened “Terracotta” finish.
In sharp contrast, a dark palette of blues is painted on the other pair, accented by a dark navy heel and bright “Seafoam” overlays. Both outfits dip a portion of the midsole in splattered designs, while baby blue dress the embroidered branding element on the heel.
ASICS themselves have yet to disclose a release date but select retailers like Sneaker Politics already have the pair available for US$140.
