Over the weekend, Complex reported that famed Japanese designer Nigo has signed a new deal with Nike, with a probable Nigo x Nike collection set to drop next year. While details are still scanty at the moment, it’s an exciting time for sneakerheads and Japanese fashion lovers alike.

In a recent Instagram post by good friend and fellow designer Verdy, Nigo was spotted in a pair of Nike Go FlyEase, adding fuel to the fire.

Nigo, who currently helms Human Made and is also the artistic director of Kenzo, has worked with adidas for the good part of 20 years. But it seems like the Japanese designer is changing allegiances and going checks over stripes with this new deal.

It’s not immediately clear what this partnership will entail, but Complex has reported that the duo will be working on a sneaker.

While Nigo has never worked directly with the Swoosh brand before, it’s clear that Nike’s footwear has always been a thing for him. In 2002, Nigo launched the now-infamous BAPE STA silhouette, which is, at its core, a Nike Air Force 1-inspired sneaker.

Ironically, Nike is still in the midst of suing A BATHING APE over the BAPE STAs. Just to make things clear, Nigo sold A BATHING APE back in 2011 to a Hong Kong fashion conglomerate so he’s off the hook.

No official announcement or statement from the duo have been made as of now, so stay tuned for more information regarding this exciting Nigo x Nike collaboration.
