First Look: XLARGE x Clarks Originals Wallabee
When the Gorilla meets the Wallabee.
When it was first released in 1964, the Wallabee swiftly gained popularity among that era’s counterculture. Its unusual style includes a moccasin-like toe, a two-eyelet lace-up fastening, and a crepe sole that offers comfort and durability. Over the years, it’s been seen in a variety of hues and designs and is manufactured from premium materials like suede or leather. Now, adding to its highly artistic pedigree is pioneering American streetwear label XLARGE.
Their take is noticeably restrained relative to other iterations that’s come before. It maintains one of its most iconic makeup: a uniform black dressing its suede body. Not to be mistaken for a negative for its as striking as it can possibly be with the high contrast between the black and the bright green of the retrofitted parts. As seen on the laces, the XLARGE hangtag that sees its gorilla mascot and logo, as well as the tag on the ankle collar.
The pair is reported to go for JPY25,300 (~US$190) and will be released on 14 April at official XLARGE purveyor, calif.
