Nike x BODE Revive the Astro Grabbers from the 70’s

BODE reaches into Nike's archives to weave luxury into the football silhouette's hardy makings.

For luxury brand BODE, fashion is a form through which a narrative is told. Modern workwear silhouettes are constructed with a collage of traditional homely techniques—quilting, mending, and appliqué—and antique textiles. This intentional approach foregrounds female-centric traditions and dusts off older materials, reinvigorating them with new age attention.

In this upcoming collaboration with Nike (as reported by Complex), BODE’s philosophy shines through their silhouette of choice: the Nike Astro Grabbers from the 70’s. Designed by Bill Bowerman and worn by NFL’s Hall of Famer Dan Fouts, this archived model was never retro’ed by the Swoosh and has thus become the perfect forgotten canvas that appeals to BODE’s revival instincts.

While no images have managed to escape from Nike’s clutches, the Internet has been abuzz with speculation. In reference to BODE’s preference of older textures and traditional patching techniques, we can expect (and hope) to see weaved design, intricate embroidery and other nifty details that convey BODE’s warm and wholesome look.

Alongside a sneaker project, @le.syndrome has also claimed that BODE is set to drop some 70’s-inspired tracksuits with Nike as an homage to the silhouette. The release is expected to happen towards the end of 2023 as part of Nike’s holiday launches or in early 2024.

While only time will tell whether this collaboration will make it out of the woodwork, rest assured that this article will be kept up to date with the latest details.

In the meantime, why not check out this DJ Clark Kent x Nike Air Force 1 Low “The List” that is a marvel of pastel colors?
