Levi’s and Nigo Drop Made-in-Japan 501 Denim Collection
Recreated from archival Levi's 501 from the 90s.
Levi’s is celebrating 150 years of its beloved 501 jeans this year, and what better way to celebrate than hooking up with purveyor of cool Americana fashion and collector of vintage denim Nigo?
For this commemorative collab, Nigo designed a two-piece capsule that consists of a reworked 501 jeans and a 5577XX trucker jacket. Both jean and jacket are adorned with all-over Hickory Stripes and topped off with classic Levi’s details like the Levi’s red tab and two horse logo patch.
The Hickory Stripe 501 was an actual piece that Nigo used to own in the 90s. Naming the collection “The Future is in the Past”, Nigo recreated the archival piece whilst adding in a piece of Japanese magic—the garments in this 150th anniversary collection are made in Japan using traditional techniques and feature pre-shrunk selvedge denim in a vintage wash.
Nigo, who’s currently heading luxury fashion house Kenzo, secretly teased the collab when he wore the entire outfit at the closing of the brand’s recent Fall/Winter 2023 runway show.
The Levi’s x Nigo collection will be available for sale on 6 April. A pair of Levi’s x Nigo jeans costs JPY37,400 (US$282)Both the 501 jeans, while the 5577XX trucker jacket will set you back by JPY50,600 (US$382). Each also comes with a Levi’s x Nigo co-branded tote bag.
