While in the midst of celebrating Air Max Day 2023, rumors began swirling that a certain blue OG silhouette would make its return next year.

That’s right, according to @bubblekoppe, the Nike Air Max Plus “Hyper Blue” might make its return in 2024 in all of its blue gradient goodness.

Last seen in 2018 as part of the silhouette’s 20th anniversary, the “Hyper Blue” is perhaps one of the most recognizable Air Max Plus colorways ever. After all, it was one of the OG colorways designed by Sean McDowell himself back in 1998.

Air Max Plus Hyper Blue OG

Originally known as the “Sky Air”, the Nike Air Max Plus was created as a project together with retail giants Foot Locker. McDowell, who then was just a new designer at the Beaverton-based company, took on the project with a vivid memory of the Florida sunset. That’s why most of the OG colorways came in a dusk-painted gradient, along with the iconic black TPU cage that mimicked the black silhouettes of Florida’s palm trees.

Fast forward 25 years, the Nike Air Max Plus, or better known as the Nike “Tn” in certain parts of the world, has evolved into both a lifestyle icon. Those gradient kicks became popular everywhere it went despite its high retail price at the time. Not only was it a fashion statement, it was a performance giant.

For those unaware, the “Tn” represents Tuned Air, which represents the technology that debuted alongside the Air Max Plus. The Tuned Air technology made it so that the shoe was incredibly comfortable and light. It was a stroke of footwear innovation that no other brand nor shoe series has seen before. Until today, the famous yellow-and-white “Tn” branding still appears on the heel of every Air Max Plus design.

While news of a possible return will certainly delight Air Max fans, no imagery of the Nike Air Max Plus “Hyper Blue” (2024) have emerged just yet. That being said, we do expect it to remain faithful to its predecessors with perhaps minor changes to update itself. Stay tuned as we’ll bring you the latest as soon as we can.
