Japanese retailer Billy’s is no stranger to collaborations producing some noteworthy ones with Vans such as their “Year of the Rabbit” and “Animal” packs, and last year’s “Patchwork” collection. Now, they expand their collaborative portfolio with adidas by taking on one of their best-selling silhouettes, the Stan Smith.

The Minimal affix to its name is apt to the very design of the icon. It’s best known for its clean white upper but subtle changes to its features have surprisingly big effects. Case in point is the tongue embossed with the signature vector of its maker and namesake. This time however, it’s absent of the border that usually frames it, creating a uniformity with the rest of the body.

On its underside, the interior features disparate color scheme between the two pairs: white on the left, and navy on the right. Both insoles imprinted with adidas’ classic branding. On the heel tab bears the Trefoil logo presiding over “stan smith” in sans serif.

As charming as the pair already is, it’s further regaled with alternate laces. Particularly special is the one with the golden eyelets, accompanied by two others, a thematic white one and another with a navy tip.

The aforementioned colors is applied to give “an impression of intelligence and sophistication.” True enough, the Stan Smith is a versatile silhouette apropos for the asphalt of the concrete jungle and the marble floors of its interiors, complemented with a palette that’s “easy for anyone to incorporate.”

Find them on Billy’s website from 21 March with a RRP of JPY14,300 or approximately US$110.
