The Mids, at present, are deemed inferior to its taller brother in the High. But with Nike offering a diverse reimagining of the model, its slowly but surely winning more fans to its side. Case in point: the Nike Air Jordan 1 Mid SE “Tiki Leaf”.

Only the purists will be able to discern at a glance whether its a Mid or a High but there’re enough notable details to direct the eye to its more positive traits. Starting with the reds of the palette, a striking mix of tones that land on the upper. In addition to the outsoles, Team Red lands on the leather overlays at the forefoot, breezing upwards through to the eyestays and ankle collar. But lest we forget, the profile Swooshes as well.

Here, the signature is presented with an embroidered finish as opposed to the leather usually die cut onto the quarter. Muslin engulfs the suede base layer as seen on the toebox and the quarter panels, complementary to the Sail of the laces, tongue, and the midsoles. Holistically, it gives a “pre-aged” aesthetic commonplace in vintage silhouettes.

While the above-mentioned all play a part in its appeal, the highlight would have to be intricate embroidery of the Tiki Leaf patterns on the rear of the shoe, from the heel counter to the ankle collar. Final touches to its design comes through the branding elements like the Jordan Wings on the lateral ankle and the Jumpman on the tongue tag.

It’s surprising that such workmanship is applied to a standard release but anything will do to boost the reputation of the oft-relegated mid top. Teased months earlier, a release date has been confirmed for 5 March 2023 with a RRP of US$135. Find them on Nike’s brick-and-click when the date rolls around.

Similar in color, the new Jordan Stadium 90 “White/Red” might be right up your alley. Enjoy!
