[Update 25 May 2023] Seems like it’s not only the kids who are getting a pair of this Nike Air Max 1 “The Bay”. The pair is said to arrive on 7 June in Adult Men’s sizing via Nike SNKRS with a retail price of $160.

It’s about that time of the year where final preparations for the annual Air Max Day comes to a climax. As part of its 35th anniversary this year, the Nike Air Max 1 has received a plethora of new releases set for the rest of the year, with the likes of the Nike Air Max 1 OG “Big Bubble” returning on Air Max Day itself.

Joining the lineup this year will be this kids exclusive Nike Air Max 1 “The Bay”. While unassuming at first sight thanks to its clean uppers, this offering actually carries one of the wildest combination of textiles you’d find on any sneaker.

Where do we even begin. The uppers features an amalgam of over 5 different materials, with canvas acting as the base layer while leather takes on the mid panel. Further down, a subdued grey washes over the suede mudguard, while gum-treated soles accentuate the outsole underfoot.

Working our way back up top, a plush fur adorns the vamp and tongue, with “The Bay” taking over Nike’s usual tongue branding spots. Instead of the usual Swoosh logo, an embroidered red and gold feather takes on the lateral side of the sneaker, giving the Air Max 1 its only pop of color throughout its upper.

Rounding off the design is a removable metallic hangtag that mimics an interstate sign as well as more Californian-inspired graphics on the insoles, reiterating its love for the US’ West Coast.

This is certainly an intricate pair that embodies the meaning of “more than meets the eye”, and certainly one that West Coasters can be proud of. Reportedly set to arrive on 14th April, you can first enjoy an official look at the upcoming Nike Air Max 1 GS “The Bay” via the top slider above.
