Footwear has always been a vehicle for positive change, many a part of the world’s most history-altering moments. Basketball and other sports have had their sneakers become a medium for their messages with some players going as far as to customize their own. But in recent years independent brands too, from the skateboarding circuit no less, have been doing their part.

There’s Why So Sad? and their Nike SB Dunk Low and SB Bruin High that promotes mental health awareness; Skate Like a Girl’s SB Dunk Low Pro that advocates for inclusivity. On the other side of the world, there’s another label fighting a similar fight all the way from Glasgow, Scotland: Doyenne Skateboards.

Doyenne is a brand and design studio with mindful considerations of the community and their environment at the core. Not only do they make clothes that are accessible, gender and size inclusive, percentage of their proceeds go towards philanthropy. Moreover, they also organize events and free lessons both locally in Glasgow and the world. This year, Nike gives them an assist to help further their cause.

Their Nike SB Blazer Low comes with an earthy palette of Coconut Milk, Rattan, Limestone, and Sail. The canvas upper features decorative stitching particularly through the profile Swooshes and the “Doyenne” embroidery on the lateral heel.

The design of the branding elements summon a vibe that’s equal parts calming and aesthetically pleasing. Aside from the tonal browns, an abstract graphic serves as the highlight proliferating on the outsole underfoot, the tongue tag, heel tab, and lastly on the footbed.

A firm release date hasn’t been disclosed but they’re expected to retail for US$100. While waiting for more information, why not check out the incoming Nike WMNS Air Max 1 that’s adorned with quaint metal charms? It’s a touch of Bohemia on the modern-day classic.
