The Billie Eilish x Nike Air Alpha Force 88s Are Dropping Next Week
Teased by a few sources, a Billie Eilish x Nike Air Alpha Force 88 is coming and expected to come with minimal co-branding.
[Update 31 Jul 2023] Billie Eilish officially confirmed the Nike Air Alpha Force 88 as her next Swoosh sneaker via an Instagram post. The series of images showed off two colorways of the Billie Eilish x Nike Air Alpha Force 88 “Fire Red and White” and “Black and White”, both of which were teased before, with a Y2K aesthetic seemingly shot on a retro camcorder.
What’s even sweeter than these campaign images? The Grammy winner wrote that the shoes will drop on her webstore on 7 August, a day before its wider release on Nike SNKRS. Mark your calendars!
[Update 28 Jul 2023] Good news to all Billie Eilish fans. Together with the “White/Black” colorway that was revealed today, official imagery and the release date of the “Fire Red” pair have surfaced. The sneaker will release on 8 August, at a retail price of US$130. Good luck to those looking to cop!
[Update 14 Mar 2023] While official images and release details have yet to surface, @yankeekicks has provided more on-feet looks of the pair. Take a look at them on the article slider and await for more future updates from the duo.
[Update 19 Feb 2023] First images of the upcoming collaboration between Billie Eilish and the Swoosh have emerged. Shared by @prvt.selection, it’s a comprehensive set with on-feet looks and an isolated, closeup of the actual shoe.
It bears the same color palette as the one worn by Michael Jordan himself with the only indication of the partnership being on the footbed. Perhaps intentional to retain as much of the retro aesthetic and energy as possible. It is a deviation from the duo’s previous offerings that leaned more towards a contemporary design language.
A release date hasn’t been disclosed but with more images coming to light, it’s definitely on the way out. Stay tuned!
Nike’s revival of its archives has been an ongoing ambitious project, with certain models refreshed for its popularity back in the day, while others are given a resurgence due to its significance in the Swoosh’s history. The comeback of the Nike Air Alpha Force 88, in our opinion, falls in the latter category.
Oft left in the dust of the Jordan line’s successive silhouettes, the Air Alpha Force was a special shoe that MJ wore once in 1988 against the New York Knicks despite already landing a signature line with Nike. It’s no secret that Michael Jordan felt little synergy with the AJ2, and his donning of the Air Alpha Force was speculated to be the basketball star’s questionably-subtle act of defiance.
Regardless, it seems like Nike is embracing this rebellious moment and has prepared a line of Air Alpha Force 88s to reintroduce the 80’s silhouette this year. Among the purported colorways is a “White/Venom Green” look that could potentially be a Billie Eilish collaboration.
First suggested by Sole Retriever and recently teased by Masterchefian on his Twitter, the potential collaboration will see the Nike Air Alpha Force 88 decked out in its usual tech specifications. Contrary to expectations of strap multiplication (as seen in the singer’s AF1s), the only nod to the working partnership will be printed on the insole.
However, no images have surfaced thus far, so we only have speculations and leaked news to go by—an apt mystery given the peculiarity that shrouds MJ’s wearing of the Air Alpha Force in ’88.
But be rest assured that we’ll update this page as soon as more information becomes available. ‘Till then, why not take a look at this Nike Zoom Kobe 4 Protro that honors Gigi?
