WACKO MARIA Travels to 2029 With Ghost in the Shell
People love machines—and fashion—in 2029.
[Update 15 Jun 2023] Following the first drop of sweatshirts on 25 March, we are finally seeing the release of the remaining lineup of Hawaiian shirts from the WACKO MARIA x Ghost in the Shell SS23 collection. Slated to arrive on 17 June, the second drop will be made available for purchase via WACKO MARIA.
Masamune Shirow’s Ghost in the Shell sets its scene in the era of 2029, where cyber terrorism puts society at stake. And you may think that at times like this, do people still care about fashion?
Well, the answer to that might lie within this upcoming collaboration with Japanese label WACKO MARIA.
Arriving in a lineup of sweatshirts and Hawaiian shirts, the collection looks to the cyberpunk attributes of the franchise. Referencing to iconic scenes and also the cybernetic human nature of the main protagonist, graphic prints featuring Motoko Kusanagi dresses the body of garments.
As much as we agree on the hidden quotes of “People love machines in 2029A.D.”, it is safe to assume that this collection depicts how fashion would look like during that time—graphical and augmented.
Releasing as part of WACKO MARIA’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection, the Ghost in the Shell collaborative collection will be made available for purchase via WACKO MARIA.
