The Nike ACG Watercat+ Unveiled in 4 New Colorways
Rain, shine, or style, these kicks have got you covered.
[Update 28 Jun 2023] A new colorway has been added to the lineup, this time appearing in a “Black” makeup. A release date has also been announced for the “Black” pair, set to drop on Nike and select retailers on 21 July.
[Update 17 Feb 2023] Another colorway has been announced in addition to the “Court Purple” and “Black/Orange”. Likewise, there’s no release date yet for the “Light Orewood Brown” but they’re expected to be released within the coming months for US$125.
In recent years, the sustainability of sneakers—a sector plagued by waste and overproduction—has received increased attention, spurring top sportswear brands to make a determined effort to lessen their environmental impact. Nike was at the forefront of this trend even before Space Hippie, Nike Grind, and Next Nature with ACG, introducing a plethora of green products under the “Considered” label. One of the line-numerous up’s breakthroughs was the Watercat, and now, many years after its introduction, the model is being revised for 2023 in two striking colorways: “Court Purple” and “Black/Orange”.
In contrast to its forerunner, the Swoosh has replaced the textile ribbons with intricately woven cords that begin at the toe tips and extend the length of the base. While the midsole contrasts with the white sidewalls, other elements, such as the rubber trim on the lace toggle, are completed in complementary hues. The design is finished with an all-over ACG logo and a two-tone, sticky rubber outsole.
These kicks are designed to be comfortable in hot weather on the street or immersed underwater and are incredibly breathable. The collar features a toggled lacing system for simple on/off wear, and the heels are supported by a rubber heel counter. And right off the bat, the silhouette recalls KEEN’s UNEEK footwear, which shares a similar sustainability-focused design philosophy.
Take a peak at the in-depth official images above and keep an eye out for the Nike ACG Watercat+ “Court Purple” and “Black/Orange” when it launches on Nike.com later this year with a suggested retail price of US$125.
