Besides being known for its all-too-famous red box logo, Supreme is also renowned for its wacky collaborations, usually found in the form of its accessories. From nunchucks to inflatable rafts, the World Famous brand has slapped their name on almost everything and anything you can find, turning them from an afterthought to a necessity—as deemed by streetwear enthusiasts worldwide.

Just like how sports fans would eagerly await the release of their teams’ playing schedule before the start of a new season, Supreme’s diehard fanbase shares the same feeling of anticipation and excitement when the legendary streetwear label drops their preview and lookbook. Like clockwork, admirers of the brand flock to their website to take a look at what the upcoming season would offer, and more often than not, social media will go crazy about the offering of accessories.

This upcoming Spring/Summer 2023 Season proves to be no different. While rumours have been swirling weeks before the release of the lookbook and preview, Supreme has finally confirmed the existence of one of the most hyped-up items coming into SS23.

Linking up with the famed Japanese toy manufacturer Bandai, Supreme is releasing a set of Tamagotchis this upcoming season. For those unaware, these infamous palm-sized, egg-shaped devices were one of the most era-defining toys of the late 1990s/early 2000s.

First created by Bandai back in 1996, the Tamagotchi—a combination of the Japanese words tamago (たまご), which means “egg”, and uotchi (ウオッチ), “watch”—became an international sensation shortly after its release. Essentially, its a handheld virtual pet game where users raise these alien pets from their egg form into adults. Basically, it’s like taking care of an actual pet. The more you attend to it, the smarter and cuter your pet will evolve into once it grows up.

Tamagotchis became a necessity for any kid coming into the new millennium. Coupled with their handy size and keychain feature, every kid had it hanging from their bags or their pocket loops. Furthermore, they came in a huge variety of colors, giving more personality to its user.

In more recent years, along with the recent revival of Y2K trends, Tamagotchis have started popping up on social media once again. Bandai has consistently created culturally relevant Tamagotchi collaborations over the past few years, such as their 25th anniversary Tamagotchi with legendary anime series One Piece, as well as one that was made with K-POP sensation BTS, featuring the seven members as the main characters within its mini black and white screen.

That sets the stage for the famed New York label to attach its name to it. With early rumors about the collaboration swirling weeks before the reveal, fans were already filled with expectation and excitement. Many were already labelling it as the “best accessory this season” before looking at the rest of the offering. That was the sort of hype the Supreme Tamagotchi brings.

Coming in grey camo, pink camo and green camo, these World Famous Tamagotchis don’t exactly differ in size or shape. What makes it uniquely Supreme is its obvious red box logo branding on the top of the device, as well as the background within the screen.

While we’re unsure when exactly these Supreme x Bandai Tamagotchi are dropping or its retail price, but at the very least, confirmation that these collaboration is officially happening definitely calls for celebration and anticipation. Stay tuned as we’ll keep you updated as soon as we can!
