A Classic Returns: The Nike Air More Uptempo “OG”
As worn by Scottie Pippen back in 1996.
Nothing screams “Air” more than the Nike Air More Uptempo. The boisterous, in-your-face branding on the side wall has become one of the biggest hallmarks of any Nike sneaker, with the silhouette itself becoming a mainstay for both sneakerheads and basketball fans alike back in the mid 90s. Now, one of the most celebrated designs, the “OG” Black/White colorway that was last released back in 2020, is set for a return this year once again.
True to its name, the titular colorway goes back all the way to the start of the Chicago Bulls’ second three-peat era, where it was worn and popularised by Scottie Pippen himself during the 1995-1996 NBA season. Dressed in its classic black and white colorway, the upper features a a construction with black nubuck materials, while the “AIR” branding is accentuated with a stroke of white that makes it dazzle on the hardcourt.
Having been re-released four times since its original outing, respectively in 2006, 2010, 2016 and 2020, the fifth iteration will return a year ahead of schedule if the pattern above is anything to go by. One differentiating factor is what seems to be the inclusion of a more translucent Swoosh logo on the heel, as opposed to a brighter white logo featured on its predecessors.
You can expect this re-release of the classic Nike Air More Uptempo “OG” later this year at a retail price of US$160. We’ll make sure to update this page once we get more information regarding its release.
