There’s no sneaker quite as transcendent as the Air Jordan 1. It’s gone from being a legend on the hardwood, to being a legend on the concrete. It’s in a rare class. It’s ubiquity paralleled only by a few. Thanks to the appeal of its Low iteration, it’s gone from being a favorite of the most erudite Jordan fans, to being a favorite of the most casual enthusiast.

Mix that with two iconic colorways, and there, the elements of a perfect storm. It doesn’t need to win the favor of the purists, the Lows weren’t designed for them anyway. While the most ardent sneakerhead will definitely have their eyes set on the rumored Air Jordan 1 High OG “Royal Reimagined”, everyone else will have theirs on this pair-in-discussion.

The upcoming “Black University Blue” iteration of the Lows is an amalgam of the “Dark Marina Blue” and “Game Royal Toe” colorways. The former shapes the core of the design, whereby deviations to its blueprint are inspired by the latter. The titular “University Blue” takes flight over the toe box, tongue, profile Swooshes, and heel; while the black lands on the runway of the mudguard, quarter, and laces.

The Jumpman on the tongue and the embroidery of the Jordan Wings on the heel both bear the same black, adding uniformity to the aesthetic. The overall design is supported by a white midsole and a University Blue outsole underfoot.

A release date has been scheduled for August 2023, amidst the strong rollout of retro Jordans in the summer. Find them on SNKRS then with a price tag of US$110 for Men’s sizing and US$90 for Grade School.

In another part of the Jordan-sphere, another perfect storm is forecasted. Lightning might strike with the sample of a fragment design x Nike Air Jordan 1.
