MOON Equipped x Vans: The Half Cab Turns 30 Together With the Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show
Vans and MOONEYES come together to celebrate their brainchildren's Pearl anniversaries.
30 years ago in LA, skating legend Steve Caballero noticed his contemporaries cutting down the collar of his Vans signature high top and taping the area of the incision. He brought it up to the brand and they acquiesced. Thus, the Half Cab as we know it today was born. Elsewhere in Japan, American automotive company MOONEYES begun organizing the Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show, which would eventually become the country’s largest indoor car & motorcycle show.
Decades forward, Vans and MOONEYES come together to celebrate their brainchildren’s Pearl anniversaries, producing the commemorative MOON Equipped x Vans Half Cab.
MOON Equipped’s logo uninhibitedly graces the Cream canvas base layer, only accommodating to the other essential branding elements. Where there’s space, the company makes their presence, particularly on the metal lace look engraved; their slogan “FAST, FASTER, FASTEST” imprinted over the grey suede strip on the lateral quarter; the heel; before making an exit through the branding on the midsole.
For contrast, Vans makes theirs in the red accents on the tongue tag, the tip right above and underside, the stitched-on tag on the collar, lest we forget, the signature branding on the heel of the vulcanized rubber midsole. Alternate laces are also included—aptly, for a custom look.
The pair will be sold for ¥14,300 (≈US$105), exclusively on 4 December at the Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show. A t-shirt offering in black, adorned with the brand’s colors and motif will also be included in the mix for ¥4,500 (≈US$33).
