KidSuper Supersizes Suicoke’s Sandals
It's uncanny valley with this debut KidSuper x Suicoke collaboration, except the valley is a colorful playground with oversized elements.
KidSuper’s tagline—”a real company built on unreal ideas”—is the perfect encapsulation of what the Colm Dillane-founded brand brings to the table. Retro trends are refracted through contemporary lens, creating flamboyantly colorful and unique designs that linger in your inner child’s mind. Their youthful playfulness is so explosive that KidSuper has a track record of taking over their collaborative partners’ silhouettes. Case in point: their eye-catching Puma projects and now their upcoming debut collaboration with Suicoke.
One look at the collaborative pieces and you can tell it has KidSuper written all over it. Working on Suicoke’s signature MOTO and PEPPER silhouettes (renamed LUUK and MUUK respectively), both models have been overhauled with bright pops of pink, peach, purples and blues. But even more striking than the color choices are closures that span across the uppers. Thick, supersized laces in pastel colors wind across the typically laceless shoes for both function and statement. There’s a distinct feeling that these collaborative wears could’ve been from the 90’s, but Suicoke’s contemporary elements roots the pairs within the present time, creating a uniqueness that feels, ironically, ahead of its time.
This collaborative KidSuper x Suicoke project drops today, 18 Nov, on Suicoke and KidSuper’s websites. The MUUK retails for US$270 while the LUUK is priced slightly higher at US$275.
