adidas has a lot to boast when it comes to the sneaker technologies it’s introduced over the last 30 years. They’re a mainstay in the cutting-edge of footwear design and in the 73 years of its existence, they’ve produced not only some of the most iconic models like the Stan Smith and Superstar, but also some of the most technologically-advanced.

Their signature innovations have thus far been standalone silhouettes, but coming into 2023, they’re taking experimentation to new heights by amalgamating all of them into one: featuring the BOUNCE, adiPRENE, FORMOTION, and ADIWEAR.

The AlphaBOOST V1’s shape may resemble that of the Y-3 KAIWA and AlphaBOUNCE, but how they feel and perform will largely be different.

The latter’s sole unit is integrated into this pair-in-discussion, sharing responsibilities with the instantly recognizable BOOST in the rear half. The aforementioned BOUNCE is a foam material that excels in comfort and flexibility while BOOST will provide the energy return for propulsion.

An adiPRENE EVA compound also joins the mix by providing impact reduction on harsh landings. FORMOTION (pictured in blue) gets its placement on the heel offering stability and mobility, especially on uneven ground. Lastly, ADIWEAR is installed on the outsole for durability, built to withstand the toughest conditions.

Sometimes less is more, sometimes more—is just more. It’s yet to be seen how these different signatures will work together in a singular housing. After all, too many chefs in the kitchen can spoil the soup. Nevertheless, this experiment is as much a nod to its past, and a look towards the future.

There’s nothing that points to a release date for the AlphaBOOST V1 nor its price point. But they should be disclosed by adidas soon before long, as the year draws closer to its curtain call.
