When it comes to high fashion, adidas has a taste for brazen theatrics — which can come in the form of bloated silhouettes and “flattened” shoes under Balenciaga or Gucci’s faithful and flamboyant take on sportswear. adidas’ versatility has proven to be an advantageous trait that luxury brands can tap on to engage a wider net of general consumers, and Gucci likely thinks so too — especially since it has extended its relationship with the Trefoil for SS23.

Building on the Gucci x adidas Fall/Winter 2022 collection, which saw Gucci’s retro-chic aesthetic meld with the athletic signatures of adidas, the SS23 collection seems to exude a similar sportive sophistication that is reminiscent of the Roaring 20’s fashion choices for viewing sports. At the time of writing, only one piece from the collection has been revealed by @suungjuuun given that the fashion house cancelled their Cosmogonie Seoul show due to the Itaewon tragedy.

The well-lit pictures showcase the Gucci x adidas knit cardigan in a striking cobalt blue with triple red stripes along the hem and sleeve cuffs. White three stripes follow the curve of the shoulder, giving the illusion of structure despite the knit’s bulk. Co-branding lands squarely on the back of the knitted outerwear. The jumper-cardigan also starts with a folded down high-neck, giving the piece some “casually vogue” final touches.
