The New Balance 2002R “Egg Yolk” Keeps Its Sunny Side Up
Walk on clouds with this one, not eggshells.
There’s a certain aesthetic that people have come to expect with New Balance these days: pre-aged, a muted color palette, or a shape inspired by the design conventions of its time. For this 2002R “Egg Yolk”, the aforementioned is left at the vestibule.
Arriving in a vibrant yellow, the “Egg Yolk” colorway diverges from its contemporaries but nevertheless, the build remains familiar. The multi-material upper adopts a uniform look with yellow taking up the entirety of the real estate, save for the various branding elements that stands in contrast.
The tongue tag and the model’s name on the collar is imprinted in white with the “N” logo on the profiles arriving in grey. The shade makes several more appearances particularly on the heel counter and tab, top eye stays, lace lock, and the rear of the sole unit.
For the performance aspect, its hallmarks remain. The sole unit borrows from the 860v2’s, integrated with the brand’s signature ACTEVA LITE midsole, ABZORB SBS heel component, along with their N-ergy shock absorption technology and Stability Web arch support up top.
The “Egg Yolk” colorway might be an acquired taste to NB’s ardent fans but they should expect brighter hues to hit the silhouette considering it’s growing popularity and expanding-roster. It’s already available on New Balance’s website for US$140.
