[Update 28 Apr 2023] New images have emerged of the AJ8 “Playoffs”, courtesy of @zsneakerheadz and @byrd_kickz. It’s a live look that gives a closer depiction of what the actual pair will look like. In addition, there’s been a change in a release date. Originally scheduled for 2 September, new sources has the shoe projected to drop on 30 September. Stay tuned as we await more information to ascertain this news.

“23” is set to dominate ’23. The Jumpman has been trigger-happy when it comes to shooting news about upcoming retro releases for next year. Alongside the Air Jordan 5 “Burgundy” and the Air Jordan 7 “Chambray”, will be the pair in discussion—the Air Jordan 8 “Playoffs”. With its 30th anniversary nigh, there’s no better time for its return.

While retro releases are causes for excitement anyhow, the titular shoe has a one-up over its contemporaries. Classic silhouette, an exciting colorway, but the cherry on top will be the legendary narrative imbedded. These were the pair on Michael Jordan’s feet during the six-game series against the Phoenix Suns in 1993, the hard-won series that earned them their first franchise three-peat. There’s no USP quite as powerful as “As Seen on Michael Jordan”.

Should its homecoming come to pass, expect this AJ 8 in the same jet-black nubuck build albeit with a higher grade, superior to its last release in 2013 that was prone to creasing. Its hallmarks will be a mainstay: the chenille Jumpman on the tongue, the graphic heel overlay, and the most distinct criss-crossing dual-strap over the laces.

@zsneakerheadz has the pair purported for a 2nd September 2023 release date, and no price point has been shared. Neither Nike nor Jordan Brand has ascertained any of the aforementioned at the time of writing. But should any information come to light, an update to this article will be in order.

Elsewhere in Nike’s busy world, check out the Nike Air Force 1 Low “Georgetown”, a colorway that pays homage to one of its earliest partners.
