Frida Kahlo and bright colors are synonymous. She is most recognized for her raw self-portraits that combine mixed realism, surrealism, and fantasy that explore issues like identity, the human body, and mortality. Her art is still making an exceptional impact on today’s cultural landscape and pioneering streetwear brand, The Hundreds, is commemorating the brilliance of the world’s famous Mexican painter in latest collab.

As part of the celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States, which got underway on 15 September, the community-focused brand has created an exclusive new capsule collection through ready-to-wear and accessory pieces. This includes a 500-piece “Wildflower” puzzle as well as a variety of styled hoodies, headgear, and t-shirts. It’s based on her creative documentation of Mexico’s sociopolitical climate throughout the 1930s.

T-shirts and hoodies feature flowery patterns akin to Kahlo’s notable iconography, as well as an updated version of The Hundreds’ “Adam Bomb” emblem with a complex “Sugar Skull” overlay element.

The brand has previously honored reputable fine artists—Vincent van Gogh, resulted in a partnership with the Van Gogh Museum, and Jason Seife, who is known for creating ornate paintings and installations which reinterprets the geometric motifs of traditional Persian rugs.

The Hundreds x Frida Kahlo collection is already made available, fresh from the oven on 29 September, through the brand’s website, app, and select retailers.
