The latest team-up between Junya Watanabe and New Balance is finally arriving. The Japanese label’s take on Tokyo Design Studio’s Niobium Concept 2 sandals has kept fans in anticipation since its first sightings on the Paris runway. Tokyo Design Studio (TDS) is New Balance’s Japanese design unit with a focus on innovation and has given us creations such as the highly-regarded RC Elite collab with Stone Island.

The Niobium Concept 2, TDS’s version of a hiking sandal-mule hybrid, has previously received a makeover via their partnership with hiking brand Snow Peak. With Junya Watanabe, an imprint under the Comme des Garçons group of brands, the Niobium Concept 2 has gotten even cooler.

The Junya Watanabe CdG Man x TDS Niobium Concept 2 is outfitted in premium leather in full black, with the only colors being the NB and Vibram logos at the magnetic buckle and midsole. Junya Watanabe’s mark can be seen on the heel strap printed with the text “JWCdGMAN” and insole featuring the brand’s signature blue.

The features that made the Niobium Concept 2 a stand-out have been kept unchanged—from the removable heel straps, Fresh Foam X meets Vibram Mega Grip sole unit, to the reflective strip on the mudguard.

This pair of Junya Watanabe CdG Man x Tokyo Design Studio Niobium Concept 2 marks the longtime collaborators’ first venture into Gorpcore and will drop on 1 October in Japan at a retail price of JPY64,900 (~ US$449).

In other sneaker-related news, the Jordan Nu Retro 1 Low returns in true “Chicago” style.
