Palace is Arranging an adidas Y-3 Yuuto Comeback
Yohji Yamamoto revives the Y-3 x adidas Yuuto a second time, this time in a Palace.
[Update 8 Nov 2022] With the “20 Years: Recoded” series, adidas and Yohji Yamamoto commemorated two decades of their illustrious Y-3 association. To round off the celebration, Y-3 has teamed up with Palace for a joint collection. The notable collection puts a new spin on a lineage of iconic designs from a selection of footwear, apparel, and accessories, that embodies both Palace’s tongue-in-cheek humor and Y-3’s street-meets-sports style.
Soccer jerseys with the Palace Triferg and Y-3 logos and Yohji Yamamoto’s recognizable rose motif are among the on-pitch designs. A reversible puffer jacket, a reversible souvenir jacket, and a tailored black jacket with matching joggers are more noteworthy items. In addition, there are three colorways of the 2004-era Y-3 YUUTO sneaker, as well as tracksuits, hoodies, and t-shirts. To complete the capsule, there are co-branded soccer balls, metallic silver shoulder bags, sweat-resistant training caps, and beanies.
It has been confirmed that the Palace x adidas Y-3 Fall/Winter 2022 line will launch on 11 November EDT on Palace and on the adidas CONFIRMED app.
After exploring the great outdoors with Palace in May, it seems like adidas is looking to form a deeper relationship with the London streetwear brand by opening up about its past. A retro silhouette known as the Yuuto, to be exact.
For the unacquainted, the Yuuto was a Y-3 x adidas model that debuted 18 years ago. Then, it received sneakerhead attention due to its futuristic geometrical design, but was subsequently archived by the brand. The Yuuto led a relatively quiet retirement until Yohji Yamamoto brought it back into the spotlight through a Triple Black and Full Red overhaul. Though it seemed like the model was headed into the cobwebbed backroom, Palace is now rumored to be dusting off the Yuuto with neon paint.
Leaked by the trusty @le.syndrome, the Palace x adidas Y-3 Yuuto will come in three colorways. The first is a neon “Triple Green” look that is usually reserved for sports performance sneakers. Coupled with the progressive geometrical patterns that wrap the model, this iteration exudes an alien-like charm that is characteristic of Yohji Yamamoto, save the neon brightness. The next all-black edition is perhaps an homage to the Triple Black look back in 2018, which also features bright red accents for its branding.
Last, and arguably the most, is a tonal white pair that features a painted Botan — Yohji Yamamoto’s signature flower that he has utilised in varied pieces, and also a flower oft used in ikebana (traditional Japanese flower arrangement) to represent honor, respect and good fortune. All three pairs feature Palace x adidas co-branding sewn on the puffed tongue and Y-3 brandishing the heel.
Material-wise, we expect this Palace x adidas Y-3 Yuuto to come in a similar construction as its lineage, with an upper locked with rubberized bands. EVA foam is molded into a midsole, ensuring a lightweight and comfortable spring in your step.
