For those residing outside of Japan, COMME des GARÇONS and BAPE actually share a residence in Osaka, with the ape moving into the Japanese-with-french-name boys’ flagship store in 2020. With such shop-in-shop relations, its no surprise the two are now in kahoots to release an Osaka-exclusive collection.

A nod to BAPE’s y2k presence and look, red and navy camo are the prints of choice in the apparel side of this project. Splashed alongside the distinctive camo are both brands’ logos as well as “693”. This number combination melds two historic dates for the two Japanese labels — “69” from CdG’s founding date 1963 and “93” of BAPE’s establishment in 1993.

CdG x BAPE STA Release Retail 2022

Aside from wares, the BAPE STA is also a participating piece in the collaboration. Dressed in an black colour palette that CdG would approve of, the BAPE STA also sports a sleek suede on the STA and overlay panels. The mid panel and toebox adopt a cool gray look for contrast, allowing the black COMME des GARÇONS branding to pop.

This COMME des GARÇONS x BAPE collaboration will be available at their shared space in Osaka on 11 September. Retail pricing ranges from JPY12,100 (~US$86) for the cap to JPY29,700 (~US$209) for the BAPE STA. Living outside of Japan? Fret not as the SNKRDUNK App will likely carry it soon enough.

In other monkey madness, check out this upcoming OVO x BAPE STA collaboration that involves owls, apes and crocodiles.
