Nike has a storied past well-documented in founder Phil Knight’s memoir, Shoe Dog. The shoedog will eventually see his brainchild metamorphose into the behemoth that it is today, but not without much experimentation, exercise, and experience.

Back in 1980, they tested a Swooshless design on one of their archetypal silhouettes through one of their Chinese factories, resulting in the legendary “The One Line” run of sample pairs. With the upcoming release of the 2-pair collection of Air Pegasus 83s, the Swoosh pays homage to the existence of these small run of samples that time turned into grails, amongst the most esoteric sneaker collectors.

The two pairs feature a multi-material construction, from traditional textiles to suede. NAI-KE is embroidered in Chinese alphabets on the heels of both pairs, with a nod to The One Line on the tongue while the underside features the meaningful “Elevating Inner Peace Through Sports” text.

A release date has yet to be announced but we’re expecting it to be within the year.

Elsewhere, Nike pays homage to another legend in Eric Koston. Check out the upcoming Eric Koston x Nike SB Blazer Mid.
