Beyond wacky designs that spark awe and conversation, Brain Dead’s approach to streetwear (or street culture) is also irreverently inspiring. Though most brands try to disseminate cohesive branding and attach themselves to one branch of subculture — be it skating, surfing, punk, et cetera —  the Brain Dead collective channels the vibrancy and diversity of subculture. This commitment is perhaps best experienced through the brand’s far reaching arms in apparel, film, events… You name it, they have it. Though Brain Dead is still primarily invested in its apparel, even then they still stray from being monolithic. With a host of in-house creatives and artists that span the globe, their offerings and branding pop up in differing fonts that resists easy definition.

As the collective picked up speed, Brain Dead opened up a Brain Dead Fabrications store with workwear brand Dickies in 2021. Now, a year since its inception, the two are dropping another unique collection that fuses Dickies’ hard-at-work DIY aesthetic with Brain Dead’s envelope-pushing motifs. The result is a collection of graphic tees covered in experimental graphics such as Egyptian sphynx pigeons, teary bees along with trippy LSD-inspired prints.

Reference to hippie culture is also prominent in the visual direction. Quotes like “Those who can really see what’s coming, are blowing their minds with music!” are featured while words like “mysticism”,
“astrology”, “self-hypnosis” and “occultism” also make an appearance. Not to mention, there’s a psychedelic, slightly off-kilter feel to all the graphics, contributing to sentiments of the flower power era.

Too-long pleated trousers are also included in the collection with fuzzy lambs and bees attached to the legs. These trousers come in a neutral black and green.

This Brain Dead x Dickies collection is currently available at the Brain Dead Fabrications store in Los Angeles:

Though no news of a wider global release has been announced, we are hopeful that more information will reach our ears soon. In the meantime, why not check out this On The Roger RF2 pack that was worked on by Roger Federer and KITH’s Ronnie Fieg?
