Given how the gorpcore aesthetic has permeated through the world of luxury fashion and streetwear, the arrival of the Nike Air Huarache “Mowabb” couldn’t have been more timely. It’s always been at this confluence that the Huaraches and—ACG’s crown jewel—the Mowabb were designed to operate in; where outdoor functional design is embraced and allowed to flourish even more in the urban environment.

The former has been a popular silhouette for more than three decades now, celebrating its 30th anniversary last year. It doesn’t take the most discerning eye to notice that both share a similar design DNA, both being the brainchildren of one Tinker Hatfield.

This reworking sees them put their best foot forward: the recognizable color palette is a Mowabb signature, with the Huarache retaining its hallmark features. It channels the energy of a previous iteration by Nordstrom’s Vice President of Creative Projects, Olivia Kim for her “No Cover” collaboration—albeit with some subtle deviations.

The Nike Air Huarache “Mowabb” will see an August 23 release at Nike.com, 10AM (ET).
